Volontariat helps in many ways the Indians from Pondichery, but its main concern is looking after the children: health, nutrition, schooling. The number of sponsored children is close to one thousand. The ambition of Volontariat is to take care of these children from the moment they arrive in the nursery or kindergarten until they learn a trade. That's why it demands a lot of energy and time and needs continuous financing as long as possible. Volontariat created the sponsoring system in order to be able to assure this long-lasting financing.
When a person decides to sponsor a child he must engage himself for a long period. The amount of money asked is quite modest, it starts at 100 French Francs per month which you can pay every month, every or three months or every year according to your choice. The sponsors will receive information about Volontariat and will exchange letters, translated in Tamul by Volontariat, with the sponsored child. This personalised link between the child and the sponsor has many advantages:
- creates a link between sponsor and child
- it encourages the child to study because he knows that someone cares about him and wants to improve his future.
- the exchange of information and letters is reassuring for the sponsors because it proves that their money is useful and well spent.
